Kitchen Work II

October 3, 2009

~January 14, 2009~

Well, the first step in the kitchen was to remove the drop ceiling, and see what was above it, and this is what we discovered…

Status of the kitchen ceiling above the drop ceiling

Above the drop ceiling were:

  • about 1/2 the plaster and all the lathe of a lathe and plaster ceiling
  • about 1/4 of the support rails for a second drop ceiling
  • lights that were just lashed to the drop ceiling support rails instead of properly chained to the ceiling
  • knob-and-tube electrical wiring
  • dangling standard (but very old) electrical wiring
  • abandoned gas plumbing for gas lighting
  • the WINDOW OPEN about 2-3 inches above the drop ceiling and had been for who knows how long
  • and long-dead, dessicated mice.
Hmmm, we did rather exploit Dave, didn't we?
